uSCAT Technical Reference Manual Released

Coastal & Ocean Resources has recently completed a uSCAT Technical Manual for the Underwater Cleanup Assessment Technique for Sunken Oil (uSCAT) and posted the manual online for free download. The uSCAT Manual outlines a protocol, techniques and procedures for detecting and documentation of sunken oil occurrence on the seabed. The manual provides guidance on standards for surveys and reporting and management of a uSCAT program during a spill. A Sinking Oil Risk Assessment Tool is included for evaluating the potential for a spilled oil product to sink. Likely pathways for sinking oil to form and then be transported are discussed. The protocol generally follows that of the Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Technique (SCAT) but recognizes that oil detection techniques will be quite different and reporting formats will also differ. The project was funded through both industry and government sources and was guided by a multidisciplinary steering committee.

It was the wish of the authors and the project funders that this manual be freely distributed. Because the Manual is a first edition, we are requesting that you login-in with an email so that we can provide notifications of the latest edition as the Manual is updated.
